A world citizen may provide value to society by using knowledge acquired across cultural contexts.
Hi. I’m Justin Butner. I enjoy seeing the world. Sometimes I write about it.
Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC (USA), I’ve visited 48 of the 50 states (I’ll get you, Idaho and Alaska). I’ve also been fortunate to spent a collective 3+ years travelling, working, and volunteering across 25+ countries. I managed a tour company in Lao PDR; worked at a carnival in Sydney, Australia; and built a chicken coop in the Netherlands. You can find me soaking in the tourist highlights, taking the road less traveled, diving into local life, listening to live music, and eating everything I’m offered. That’s how I got into edible insects, which is my passion project, and how I plan to help the world.
I’m back in the DC area presently, but I keep the eye and the heart of a traveler.
If you’re passing through, let me know. I’m usually happy to meet for coffee and share stories of home and far away places.
Awesome Justin! Cool to see what you have been upto since I last saw you in QLD. You should post some photos from that trip 🙂
All the best!

The picture sorting is always the hardest part of the trip. Perhaps because finishing them confirms the trip is over. But I will try to get pictures sorted and up this year.
